Industry Lufthansa Group orders 27 additional A320neo Family aircraft
Lufthansa Group has announced, that it has ordered 24 additional A320neo and three more A321neo aircraft.
The firm order was decided by the company´s supervisory board. 24 A320neo and three A321neo will be added to the group´s fleet. Ten aircraft of the order will be deployed with Swiss International Airlines, the rest is expected to operate with Lufthansa mainline.
According to current list prices, the total investment is worth about US$ 3 billion. This order originates from purchase rights, previously negotiated by the Lufthansa Group.
"Lufthansa Group is one of the largest and most experienced A320 Family operators worldwide. We are gratified to see this additional order by such a stellar customer,” says Christian Scherer, Airbus Chief Commercial Officer. “By operating the A320neo Family, Lufthansa consolidates its commitment to the highest standards of efficiency and noise reduction.”
The group will receive aircraft equipped with both CFM LEAP-1A and Pratt & Whitney engines. This ensures, that both engine types will be available in equal proportions within the group. Along with state-of-the-art engines, the Airbus A320neo (New Engine Option) features aerodynamic wingtips (Sharklets). Moreover, noise-reducing vortex generators lead to a much smaller noise-carpet and an environmentally smaller footprint compared to older aircraft.
With the order, the total number of A320neo and A321neo orders from the group increases to 149 aircraft. Currently, 13 of them are already flying with Lufthansa. Deliveries of the 27 aircraft are planned between 2023 and 2024.
Lufthansa Group operates over 600 aircraft, which makes it one of the largest airline fleets in the world. Subsidiary airlines of Lufthansa are Air Dolomiti, Austrian Airlines, Brussels Airlines, Eurowings, Luftfahrtgesellschaft Walter, Lufthansa Cargo, Lufthansa CityLine, Swiss International Air Lines, AeroLogic and SunExpess. Lufthansa mainline is a member of the Star Alliance and is headquartered at Frankfurt, where the carrier´s largest Hub is located.
