Industry SkyWest orders nine E175 jets

Aircraft manufacturer Embraer and carrier SkyWest have announced, that the airline has ordered nine E175 jets.

A firm order was signed between the two parties. The deal has a value of approximately US$ 422m according to current list prices. Deliveries of the nine additional E175s are set to begin this year. The carrier is already flying with a fleet of 149 E175s.

"Since 2013, SkyWest has purchased a total of 158 E175s, including these nine, in order to expand their large existing fleet of Embraer aircraft,” said Charlie Hillis, Vice President, Sales & Marketing, North America, Embraer Commercial Aviation.

"We are extremely proud of their ongoing support for the E-Jets program and the fact that the E175 continues to outperform in North America. Without a doubt, the E175 has become the backbone of the regional aviation market in the U.S.," added Hillis.

Embraer has now sold more than 565 E175 to North American airlines, representing the good performances of the aircraft in this area. Since 2013, more than 80% of all orders have been for the E175, said Embraer.

As premier regional airline in the United States, SkyWest airlines hopes to furthermore extend its route network with the new aircraft. The carrier is flying for Delta Air Lines Connect, United Express, Alaska Airlines or American Eagle. The E175s will be equipped with 76 seats.

SkyWest Chief Executive Officer and President Chip Childs said: “We’re pleased to continue adding new E175 aircraft under long-term contract to our increasingly efficient, agile and flexible fleet [...] We appreciate Embraer’s strong partnership and remain impressed with the Embraer product.”

Embraer´s successful E-Jets family has received over 1,800 orders to date. The manufacturer delivered 1,500 aircraft and currently, 70 operators are flying the aircraft in 50 countries worldwide. Not only low-cost carrier, but also regional and mainline airlines are using the aircraft family.

SkyWest is based in St. George, Utah and provides commercial air services throughout North America. More than 2,500 daily flights are carrying over 50 million passengers annually. SkyWest currently employs more than 17,000 people.
