Industry That was the Hanse Aerospace Sailing Cup 2019
The Hanse Aerospace Sailing Cup 2019 has come to an end. 12 teams sailed against each other to win the regatta.
Over three days between Friday, the 18th October and Sunday, the 20th October, Hanse Aerospace hosted the traditional Sailing Cup. For the ninth time, several crews from the aerospace industry came together over the weekend.
This year again, a special sailing area was prepared short of Rostock-Warnemünde. The area is well-known for having beautiful sailing conditions.
On Friday, the crews with their respective skippers performed a first ride in order to test the sailboat. Important was that the crew gets to know each other and that procedures are tested for the regatta on Saturday. After a get-together with warm soup and enjoyable togetherness, the teams went to bed.
At around 9:30 AM, the regatta started. First and foremost, the red class started into the race. Shortly after, the green class hoisted up the sails. In total, the 12 teams performed four races over the day. The wind and weather conditions were absolutely perfect and the mood on board very good.
In the afternoon, all ships came back to Warnemünde harbour and after everybody refreshed themselves, an award ceremony was celebrated by the race organization. Everybody enjoyed the food and the good atmosphere.
The next day, on Sunday, the last race was due. Even though the wind wasn´t very strong, the crews sailed out for the race. After around 30-40 minutes, the race organisation had to inform the teams that the race was cancelled due to no wind.
That meant, that every team sailed back to the yacht harbour Hohe Düne, where the official victory ceremony was held. The third place was taken by Ferchau GmbH with skipper Jan Mantau, the second place by GfE Fremat GmbH with skipper Olaf Trumann and the winner of this year´s Hanse Aerospace Sailing Cup is Airbus Satair 2 with skipper Stephanes Groves.
