The deal was signed during a ceremony in Hanoi, which U.S. President Donald Trump and General Secretary and President of Vietnam Nguyen Phu Trong witnessed. According to list prices, the deal is valued at approximately US$ 3 billion.

10 Boeing 787-9 Dreamliners have been ordered by the Start-Up airline, which has started commercial operations in mid-January 2019. Currently, Bamboo Airways is offering flights from Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City to several cities throughout Vietnam. In 2019, the carrier hopes to offer up to 40 domestic routes.

The order goes back to a Memorandum of Understanding from June last year, where the carrier committed to ordering 20 B787-9 aircraft.

In addition to the domestic routes, Bamboo Airways is also planning on launching international flights to Thailand, South Korea, Japan, Taiwan, Australia and Singapore. After starting these routes, the carrier plans to fly to destinations in Europe and North America as well. And that´s where the newly ordered Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner aircraft will come into place. With these long-range aircraft, Bamboo Airways will be able to serve direct routes from Asia to destinations on other continents.

Mr. Trinh Van Quyet, Chairman of FLC Group and owner of Bamboo Airways said: "We are excited to be adding the new 787 Dreamliner to our growing fleet [...] Our long-term vision is to connect Vietnam with key markets in Asia, Europe and North America and the Dreamliner will enable us to launch these long-haul operations. The 787's superior operating economics and efficiency, as well as the passenger-pleasing interior of the Dreamliner, will allow us to successfully grow our business while enabling us to serve our customers better."

"The 787 Dreamliner's unmatched efficiency, range and flexibility make it the perfect aeroplane for Bamboo Airways to achieve its long-range ambitions. We are excited to advance the partnership between Boeing and Bamboo Airways and we look forward to helping them connect Asia with Europe, North America and beyond," added Kevin McAllister, president and CEO of Boeing Commercial Airplanes.

To date, over 1,400 orders from 75 customers have been recorded for Boeing´s Dreamliner family, which consists of the 787-8, 787-9 and 787-10. Nearly 800 of them are already in operation with airlines around the world.
