Start-Ups China Southern announces new carrier Xiongan Airlines for Beijing ops

China Southern Airlines has announced the establishment of wholly-owned subsidiary airline Xiongan Airlines.

The new carrier will not be commencing operations this year and will also not impact the annual net profit and operating income from China Southern Airlines.

With the establishment of Xiongan Airlines, China Southern Airlines seeks to cover its operations at the city´s new Beijing Daxing International Airport. The airport is expected to open on October 1st, 2019. 7 runways will handle 620,000 flights with over 1000 million passengers a year.

China Southern Airlines said in a statement: "The establishment of Xiongan Airlines in Xiongan New Area by the Company is beneficial for the better construction and operation of the Beijing Hub, and will further push forward the implementation of the strategy of ‘Dual Hub of Guangzhou and Beijing"

A total of around USD1.51 Billion worth of cash will be invested in the new carrier, according to China Southern.

The airline added: “The establishment of Xiongan Airlines is yet to be approved by competent department of industry, industrial and commercial administrative department and other relevant departments. Investors are advised to caution the investment risk as there remain certain uncertainties in the future operation of Xiongan Airlines, affected by factors such as macro economy, industry environment, changes in the market, etc.”

China Southern Airlines is one of the biggest Chinese carriers. Its fleet consists of over 560 aircraft, including Airbus A319s, A320s, A320neos, A321s, A321neos, A330s, A380s, Boeing B737 Next Gens., B777s, B787s and Embraer 190 aircraft. The airline operates scheduled passenger flights to 222 destinations in 42 countries.
