Global Crossing Airlines Inc. (GlobalX) has signed a Letter of Intent (LoI) to operate passenger flights under an operating license with Magnetic Leasing. The leasing company will provide the airline with a first Airbus A321.

Delivery of the A321 is expected to take place in December this year and will happen after all definitive lease documents have been signed. The A321 was build in 2005 and has been operated by an Asian airline beforehand. Before entering service, it will receive GlobalX colours in Lake City, Florida.

Ed Wegel, Chairman and Founder of GlobalX said: “We are grateful to Magnetic Leasing for their support of our vision and business plan. This A321 complements our plans for our initial charter operations. Magnetic is a dynamic and entrepreneurial company very much like GlobalX intends to be, and we look forward to working with them on this delivery and additional aircraft.”

Alex Vella, COO of Magnetic Leasing added: “We are delighted to have signed with GlobalX, they have an impressive management team which has developed a business plan to challenge the status quo and create excitement at a time when the industry is depressed. We are honoured to provide the first leased aircraft to GlobalX to help launch their International operations and look forward to developing and expanding our partnership for many years to come.“

With the Airbus A321, GlobalX will initially operate services to Cuba, subject to governmental approvals. Also, it is the first aircraft that will eventually be converted to freighter configuration. Currently, GlobalX is holding negotiations to acquire a second aircraft.

According to Global Crossing Airlines, the completion of the second aircraft will be announced in the coming two weeks. This aircraft will be operated under lease and purchase contracts as well and will help the carrier to become a narrowbody A321 freighter operator.

GlobalX is a new entrant airline now in FAA certification using the Airbus A320 family aircraft. Subject to FAA and DOT approvals, GlobalX intends to fly as an ACMI and wet lease charter airline serving the US, Caribbean and Latin American markets.
