U.S.-American carrier Sterling Airways has released, that it has received the certification from the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) and the approval to perform scheduled passenger services with Embraer 145 aircraft from the Department of Transportation (DOT).

The Start-Up carrier is currently based in Jacksonville, Florida, and is being led by former COO of Republic Airways, Wayne Heller. Several former members of Republic Airways have joined the team for this new airline project.

Heller commented: “While Sterling has been certified as an ERJ 145 operator, we’re very much a blank canvas that can move quickly to meet the needs of potential partners and markets crippled in the wake of COVID-19 […] Although the pandemic has challenged the airline industry, we believe that quality air services will continue to be highly desired and vital for the transportation of people and goods throughout the U.S.”

Sterling Airways will offer travel solutions like business charters, private charters or shuttle services using the approved operation certificate for the Embraer 145. The company´s platform allows new aircraft types to join the fleet. Furthermore, the airline has the flexibility to be based anywhere in the country.

“With a cost structure second to none, we aspire to set a new standard in aviation by delivering a culture rich in safety, customer service and professionalism to our passengers, partners and associates,” Heller concluded.

With the certifications granted by the authorities, Sterling Airways is now allowed to enter new markets in the American aviation branch. Especially, after the pandemic, the carrier hopes to use the flexibility of its business model to quickly attract new customers and to restore operations.

Sterling Airways is a Wexford Capital LP portfolio company. Wexford is an investment firm and was established in 1994. The company has already invested into the transportation industry with Republic Airways receiving more than 200 regional aircraft.

In Summer 2020, the company was confirmed as the new owner of the bankrupt Via Airlines. This former airline has now rebranded to Sterling Airways and is set to entry into passenger service.
