Start-Ups The Lilium Jet
Lilium Aviation, a Munich based start-up, announced it has raised a $90 million in a new round of financing.
The investment was led by Tencent Holdings, the Chinese internet giant. Other investors in the round included LGT, the investment vehicle of Lichtenstein’s royal family; Atomico, the venture firm run by a founder of Skype, Niklas Zennstrom; and Obvious Ventures, the investment firm co-founded by the Twitter co-founder Evan Williams. Mr. Zennstrom has previously invested in the company.
Daniel Wiegand, co-founder and CEO of Lilium said: “This investment is a tremendously important step for Lilium as it enables us to make the five-seat jet a reality. This is the next stage in our rapid evolution from an idea to the production of a commercially successful aircraft that will revolutionize the way we travel in and around the world’s cities."
Earlier this year Lilium demonstrated a working prototype of its battery-powered mini jet. The two-seat prototype Eagle took off vertically and then managed to smoothly shift from hovering to flying like a small jet.
