On February 12, 2018 a VLM Airlines Fokker 50 departed from its base in Antwerp to Munich and continued to Maribor in Slovenia. The new route will be flown once a day from Monday to Friday. At the start of the official summer season, the airline VLM Airlines will offer two daily frequencies on the Antwerp-Munich route on weekdays from March the 26th 2018.

“Not only is Germany the most important export market for Flanders, German companies are also the third biggest investor in our region. Companies will welcome the new route between Antwerp and Munich as it creates an additional opportunity to strengthen the trade relations between both regions”, stated Bart Boschmans, Flanders Investment & Trade Representative in Munich.

VLM Airlines filed for bankruptcy in May 2016. Some months later, SHS Antwerp Aviation acquired the Belgium airline and applied for a Slovenian AOC.  In March 2017, SHS Aviation announced to take over the flight license and two remaining aircraft of Thomas Cook Airlines Belgium. VLM Airlines recommenced operations with flights from Antwerp to London City Airport in October 2017. The fleet consists of 6 Fokker 50 turboprop aircraft and 2 Airbus A320-200s, which are all registered in Belgium.

The new route will connect VLM’s Belgium base in Antwerp with its new Maribor base. In August 2017 the Slovenian VLM Airlines operated flights from Maribor to destinations in Croatia.
