Parachute manufacturer Fruity Chutes has introduced a parachute for the DJI Matrice drones. The automatic emergency drone parachute will be available for the Matrice 200 and the Matrice 210.

The lightweight system will be launched in spring and there are - according to the company - no regulatory issues. Fruity Chutes´ parachute will be installed on one foot of the drone and will automatically deploy in an emergency situation.

The drone parachute was designed to maximize safety to people and property. The system will be easy to use and can be installed by the consumer itself.

The centrepiece of the system is the Iris Ultra Light Chute, which weights 135g. According to Fruity Chutes, the system has a nominal rating of 6.2kg at 15 feet per second decent rate. This allows a gentle landing after deployment. The company stated, that the parachute will work at heavier load weights of 10kg or more as well. In effect, consumers can use heavier cameras or batteries.

An important advantage is, that the parachute system is not reliant on the power of the Matrice 200/210 drone. If the drone´s battery has a complete failure, the parachute system will still work.

In addition, Fruity Chutes has developed a so-called Automatic Trigger System (ATS). If the drone suddenly flips, rolls or falls, the system will detect an emergency situation and will then deploy the parachute. Detection of a fall takes 0.75 seconds.
