The aircraft performed a flight display at the prestigious event in Vienna. The city is also the home to the Camcpoter S-100 production family. Schiebel was one of the major sponsors of Red Bull´s annual Air Race, as the Austrian company is a well-known VTOL and UAS developer.

Hannes Hecher, CEO of Schiebel commented: "The history of our company is strongly connected to the location of Wiener Neustadt and we are excited to be partnered with Red Bull Air Race 2018 [...] This presents a wonderful opportunity to bring together unmanned and manned aviation and give the audience a taste of the expertise and vision represented by the two sectors.”

The Camcopter S-100 performed two flights per race day and also provided the audience with an aerial overview. A range of diverse activities rounded off the entertainment program.

Schiebel´s S-100 is an Unmanned Air System (UAS) and offers capability for both civilian and military applications. The aircraft has Vertical Take-Off and Landing capabilities (VTOL), which do not require a prepared area for launch and landing. Camcopter S-100 can perform both in night- and daytime and can fly out to 200km beyond the line-of-sight.

About the aircraft, Schiebel wrote: "Its carbon fibre and titanium fuselage provides capacity for a wide range of payload/endurance combinations up to a service ceiling of 18,000 ft. In a typical configuration, the CAMCOPTER® S-100 carries a 75 lbs/34 kg payload up to 10 hours and is powered with AVGas or JP-5 heavy fuel. High-definition payload imagery is transmitted to the control station in real time."

Schiebel was founded in 1951 and the Group has focused on developing, testing and producing mine detection equipment. The company has built an international reputation for building defense and humanitarian products as well. Along with the headquarters in Vienna, Austria, Schiebel has a production facility in Abu Dahbi and offices in Washington DC (United States), Shoalhaven (Australia) and Phnom Penh (Cambodia).
