Airlines Aviation in Africa - our themed week
This week on AVIPEO.COM we offer you very special insights into aviation in Africa.
Africa is the world’s second largest and second most-populous continent behind Asia. In 2016, 1.2 billion people lived in 54 fully recognized sovereign states on the continent.
Despite the great distances between the cities of the continent and the constantly growing population, aviation in Africa is not yet developed accordingly. According to the IATA World passenger analysis, the African market has a market share of only 2.2%.
Nevertheless, aviation is of great importance in Africa: In addition to successful airlines, the aviation industry in Africa is also growing steadily. According to the website Aviationbenefits.org, 416,000 people in Africa were directly employed in aviation industry in 2016. Fast growing airlines like Ethiopian Airlines operate one of the world's most modern fleets including the Airbus A350 and Boeing 787 Dreamliner. The South African domestic route from Johannesburg to Cape Town was the 13th busiest air route by origin-and-destination passenger volume in the last years.
All these are good reasons to take a closer look at aviation in Africa: In addition to interviews with trade fair organizers and an industry association, you can expect airline portraits and other interesting background reports on AVIPEO.COM in the next week.
