Airlines Emirates and SpiceJet announce codeshare agreement

Emirates Airline and India´s SpiceJet have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to enter into a codeshare agreement.

The new partnership between the airlines is set to open new opportunities for routes and destinations. Passengers travelling between India and popular destinations throughout the world will benefit from seamless connection flights.

A MoU has been signed between the two parties, meaning, that the codeshare agreement is still subject to government approvals. When granted, Emirates passengers can enjoy seamless connectivity on flights to India. SpiceJet has a very strong presence in the country´s domestic aviation market. The agreement adds six new Indian destinations to the nine existing routes that are being served by Emirates.

On the other hand, passengers that are travelling from India will experience a greater choice to connect through Emirates´ hub at Dubai to destinations across Africa, America, Europe and the Middle East. For the first time, Indian passengers can fly to North and South American destinations such as New York, Washington or Sao Paulo on the same flight ticket.

This partnership with SpiceJet and the mutual expansion of our network will go a long way in further enhancing the travel experience of our customers in India as well as those heading into India, benefiting travellers and businesses alike.”

Ajay Singh, Chairman and Managing Director, SpiceJet added: “I am delighted to announce that as part of SpiceJet’s international expansion strategy, we have signed a MoU for a codeshare agreement with Emirates. This new partnership should immensely benefit passengers travelling on both airlines. While SpiceJet passengers from across India will be able to enjoy seamless connectivity leveraging Emirates vast network across Europe, Africa, America and the Middle East those travelling to India on Emirates will be able to travel to 51 destinations across our domestic network.”

Emirates is an airline based in Dubai, United Arab Emirates. The carrier was initially founded in 1985 and commenced operations in the same year. Currently, the fleet consists of widebody aircraft only. 109 Airbus A380s and 157 Boeing 777s belong to the fleet. Emirates is serving 161 destinations throughout the world.

SpiceJet is the second-largest airline in India and was founded back in 2005. The low-cost carrier serves 51 cities in India and nine international routes. Main operational bases are at Indira Gandhi Airport (New Delhi) and Rajiv Gandhi Airport (Hyderabad). The fleet consists of 48 Boeing 737 Next Gen aircraft.
