Starting in December 2019, Emirates will launch the service to Mexico City. Daily flights will take-off from Spain´s city Barcelona, after the aircraft has previously arrived from Dubai. The linked service means, that customers can seamlessly connect from the United Arab Emirates to Mexico.

The route will be operated by Boeing 777-200LR aircraft, which have a longer range to comparable 777 versions. The aircraft can accommodate 38 passengers in Business Class and 264 in Economy Class. Emirates has configured the seats in a 2-2-2 version.

Mexico has been an essential market to Emirates in the past. Cargo subsidiary Emirates SkyCargo is operating flights to the capital of the country since 2014. Last year, the airline carried over 22,500 tons of cargo on the route.

Regarding the new route, Tim Clark, President of Emirates Airline said: “We are excited to be able to introduce new air connectivity between Dubai and Mexico. The availability of high-quality, daily international air services is essential for the development of tourism, business and cultural ties. Trade, especially in high-value and time-sensitive products, will be facilitated by the ample cargo capacity on Emirates’ Boeing 777 aircraft. We also expect tourism to receive a major boost from the daily flights on our newly-refurbished Boeing 777-200LR.”

“Due to the high altitude of Mexico City airport, it is not possible to operate a non-stop flight from Dubai, and Barcelona was a natural choice for a stopover. We are pleased to offer a direct connection on the route between the Spanish city and Mexico City that has long been neglected by other airlines and remains underserved despite the strong customer demand. We would like to thank the authorities and our partners in both Spain and Mexico for their support of the new route and look forward to provide our unique product and award-winning service to travellers,” Clark added.

Mexico is a popular destination for leisure and business travellers around the world. Emirates hopes to address these customers.

Emirates Airline was founded in October 1985 and has been operating on long-haul routes ever since. The carrier currently flies with a fleet of 111 Airbus A380s, 21 Boeing 777-200LRs and 134 B777-300s. 161 destinations around the world are being served. The main operational hub is at Dubai International Airport.
