The project to integrate a total of 77 new aircraft in low-cost carrier Eurowings´ fleet was done in nine months. All 77 aircraft have previously been in service with Air Berlin.

On August 27, 2018, the Airbus A320 registered as D-ABDT was added to carrier’s fleet. The aircraft is the last ex Air Berlin aircraft to enter Eurowings´ fleet. Now, all aircraft of the bankrupt airline are either sold or leased by new respective owners.

Eurowings CEO Thorsten Dirks commented: "Air Berlin has been in the market for 40 years, and in less than 40 weeks we have again provided most of the flight capacity that Air Berlin has left behind for millions of passengers. We have prevented a collapse of German air traffic."

Over the course of the integration, Eurowings has also created nearly 3,000 new jobs in the cabin, on the ground and in the cockpit. Among them are many former Air Berlin employees that otherwise would have gone into unemployment.

"Our many new colleagues also do an excellent job and have made a major contribution to enabling us to complete the integration so quickly," added Dirks.

With the new 77 aircraft in its fleet, Eurowings is now being able to use the additional capacity by opening new routes and bases. Currently, the airline is the biggest carrier at Hamburg, Hanover, Cologne, Düsseldorf, Stuttgart and Nuremberg.

This Summer, more than 19 Million passengers flew with the airline, reflecting in a 17 percent plus in comparison to last year´s Summer. Simultaneously, Eurowings also accomplished measures to increase the stability of its operations. Dirks commented: "All these measures have already noticeably improved our flight operations, after we had a difficult start to the summer with unusually many flight cancellations."

Eurowings is a German low-cost carrier and belongs to the Lufthansa Group. The fleet consists of 94 aircraft, including 40 Airbus A319s, 47 A320s and seven A330s. Subsidiary airline Eurowings Europe operates with 13 aircraft. Initially, Eurowings was founded in January 1993 and commenced operations a year later.
