Airlines Iberia and Binter announce new codeshare agreement

Iberia and Binter have extended their code-sharing agreement. The extension will be mostly applied on flights within the Canary Islands, since Air Europa has started to operate on these routes.

By establishing a new agreement, both airlines hope to improve the product for their clients, which are now able to connect between Gran Canaria and Fuerteventura, Tenerife, El Hierro and Lanzarote. In addition, Iberia offers connections on Binter flights from Tenerife North to Lanzarote, La Palma, Fuerteventura, Gomera, Gran Canaria and El Hierro. Moreover, both airlines extended their codeshare arrangement on routes from Madrid to Dhaka and Banjul.

Most likely, the new codeshares are to counter Air Europa´s expansion on the inter-Canary Islands. Air Europa has commenced flights between Las Palmas de Gran Canaria and Fuerteventura, Lanzarote and Tenerife North this October. The flights are operated by ATR72 aircraft.

The initial agreement between Iberia and Binter was reached in February and included flights between Gran Canaria and Mardid, operated by Iberia, as well as routes from Gran Canaria to Agadir, El Aiún, Isla de Sal and Nuakchot, which Binter operates.

The collaboration allows passengers to travel on the same ticket with only one billing. Also, faster connections between flights and integration of loyalty programs are advantages of code-sharing.
