India´s biggest airline seeks to begin long-haul operations soon. Rumours now say, that the airline plans to order up to 50 Airbus A330 aircraft. A possible deal would be worth $13 billion, according to list prices.

In January 2018, reports expected Indigo to start flights from New Delhi to Paris, Madrid and London. Over that course, the airline took a look at Boeing´s 787 and Airbus´ A350. Now, Indigo seems to have decided on buying A330s.

According to the report, the airline may choose the upgraded version A330neo and even the smaller version A330-800neo. This week, Hawaiian Airlines announced that it will drop its order for six A330-800neo aircraft. Since the American airline was the only customer for the -800neo, the termination of Airbus´ programme was likely to happen. However, Airbus stated that it will not give up the programme, maybe due to an upcoming order from Indigo in the future.

Indigo will offer 30 percent lower prices than other competitive airlines, said a report in January. The aircraft will be equipped with just a few premium seats and mostly economy seats. It is likely, that Indigo may charge customers for choosing meals, reservations or priority boarding.

As stated in Bloomberg´s report, an order could come as early as June.

Indigo is an Indian low-cost carrier, based in New Delhi. Its fleet consists of 158 aircraft, including Airbus A320ceo, Airbus A320Neo and ATR 72-600. Over 400 new A320neo aircraft are expected to be delivered to Indigo in the coming years.
