In 2017 Primera Air had considered new transatlantic routes by entering the market with low cost long-haul connections from bases in Birmingham, London Stansted and Paris Charles-de-Gaulle to Newark and Boston. Now the airline has stopped all operations out of Birmingham in the autumn and winter flight plan.

Taking effect 29 October 1018 Primera Air is ceasing operations from Birmingham Airport to Alicante, Tenerife, Las Palma, Reykjavik and Malaga due to capacity reduction. Additionally, Primera Air is cutting its route from Stansted to Alicante on 30 September, and a not yet confirmed number of flights from Stansted to Malaga from 1 October.

Reports state that in May of this year, Primera Air had announced to hold off long-haul planes from Birmingham due to delivery delays from Airbus. In June 2017 AerCap and Primera Air had announced the lease agreement for two A321LR aircraft which were to be delivered in the fourth quarter of 2018. Eight new Airbus A321neo were to be delivered to Primera in 2018, with lessors being GECAS and AerCap. So far, one A321neo has been delivered to Primera Air in April 2018.

Primera Air is a low-cost Danish charter airline offering scheduled flights from Europe to more than 70 destinations across the Mediterranean, Middle East, Asia, Caribbean and North America. Initially, Primera Air operated charter flights for major Scandinavian tour operators with its main hubs in Denmark and Sweden, but gradually it has moved towards scheduled services. Today, Primera Air operates mid and long-haul flights from its bases in Scandinavia, UK and France.
