Ryanair hopes to end discussions about the quasi-self-employment for its pilots. After the changes, strikes are less likely to happen in Germany. However, the German pilot association Vereinigung Cockpit e.V. (VC) said, that possible strikes are not completely ruled out yet.

Previously, most Pilots were employed through a third company. In fact, pilots had to incorporate an own company in Ireland, which was managed by the local tax office. The company then had to offer its services to the McGinley Aviation, which then liaised the pilots to Ryanair. With this complicated system, Ryanair was able to save duties.

According to German media, McGinley Aviation has told the pilots, that it will cease operations for Ryanair in Germany on October 31, 2018. With that, as of November 1st, 2018, Ryanair will offer their German pilots full contracts. The airline is likely to begin talks in the coming weeks.

Shortly before Christmas 2017, VC suggested its Ryanair Pilots to strike. To prevent chaos over Christmas, Ryanair then accepted the German pilot union.

For years, Ryanair refused to change or cease its social dumping activities. After the airline experienced operational problems in the past months, a little revolution now seems to happen.

Ryanair is a major low-cost airline, headquartered in Dublin, Ireland. With over 400 Boeing 737-800 aircraft, the carrier operates flights to 207 destinations in 33 countries.
