Airlines Vietjet enters long-haul market with first Airbus A330

Low-Cost carrier Vietjet has taken delivery of its very first wide-body aircraft, an Airbus A330-300.

While celebrating its 10th airline anniversary, Vietjet has taken a next step into developing its airline operations. The carrier took delivery of a first wide-body aircraft with VN-A811, an Airbus A330-300 for long-haul operations under its low-cost business model.

The aircraft landed at Tan Son Nhat International Airport, where it was expected by airline members. The A330 is equipped with 12 business seats and 365 in the normal economy class. With the aircraft, Vietjet is able to offer flights to new markets in the medium and long-haul markets. Trip to up to 11,750km can be performed with fuel-efficient operations.

A Rolls-Royce Trent 700 engine powers the aircraft and Vietjet will benefit from the manufacturer´s Total Care program, which allows for engine efficiency and high technical reliability in operation. The A330 belongs to the more fuel-efficient aircraft in the industry.

Regarding the delivery, Vietjet Managing Director Dinh Viet Phuong said: “We are delighted to mark our 10th anniversary today with an A330 aircraft’s arrival, which will help Vietjet grow significantly in operation capacity and international footprint expansion. Our fleet of A320 and A321 over the years has carried more than 100 million passengers on tens of thousands of friendly, safe and affordable flights across Vietnam and Asia-Pacific region.”

Vietjet has been an Airbus operator since day one and is currently flying with a fleet of 18 Airbus A320s, 38 Airbus A321 and 19 Airbus A321neos. In the future, the carrier will add Boeing 737 MAX 8 aircraft for a more diverse aircraft portfolio

“The A330 aircraft with a golden silk image is also a part of Vietjet’s ongoing commitment to modernize fleet and elevate services so that our customers can take farther flights more comfortably with the most competitive ticket fares ever. We will also launch upgraded SkyBoss services soon as another special gift for our customers,” Dinh Viet Phuong added.

VN-A811 is over 13 years old and has previously been used by AirAsia X for operations in Asia and Australia. Vietjet has leased the aircraft.
