Eight new Check-In desks are now available for use. Altogether, the airport will introduce 30 new hi-tech Check-In counters this year, in order to handle the growing number of passengers at London´s third biggest airport.

The new Check-In area is part of a $816 Million airport transformation project, which Stansted Airport officially announced last year. In Phase 1, the airport will realize upgrades to the airfield, car parks and upper deck seating areas.

Paul Willis, London Stansted Airport’s Transformation Director, said: "We’re delighted to reach this major milestone in our transformation programme. We’ve been working hard since the end of last year and it’s been fantastic to watch the project move away from the planning stage and come to life.”

Stansted Airport said, that the new layout creates more space, and will help passengers to find the desks more easily. The whole transformation project is expected to be fully completed in 2022.

“Over the coming years, the whole landscape of the main terminal will change as we remodel the layout to a new ‘Shoreline’ check-in area which will stretch across the whole terminal. This will give passengers a more intuitive and easier journey through the airport and provide flexibility to allow us to accommodate new airlines as we grow as an airport,” Willis added.

Stansted Airport is located northeast of Central London. The airport serves over 170 destinations across Europe, to North Africa and Central and North America. Low-Cost airlines such as Easyjet, Jet2, Primera Air and Ryanair have chosen the airport as an operational base. Thomas Cook and TUI are offering flights to holiday destination. In 2016, the airport handled over 24 Million passengers with over 180.000 aircraft movements.
