Montijo is located around 30 kilometers away from Lisbon city center and is planned to be used for low cost short- and medium-haul flights. The currently used Humberto Delgado airport has reached its capacity limits and reported new passenger records in every single month in 2016. This results in a total number of 22,4 million passengers at the main TAP hub last year. Portuguese government confirmed to add new capacity and new terminals to Humberto Delgado airport as well. The high demand for flights to Portugal is mainly based on growing numbers of tourists spending holidays in the country.
