Freight Atlas Air acquires two Boeing 777 freighters

Atlas Air Worldwide has announced that it will acquire two Boeing 777 freighters from LATAM. The aircraft will be used for ACMI services.

Atlas Air´s subsidiary Southern Air will operate the ACMI services for DHL Express. Operations are likely to begin this month. The second aircraft is expected to be deployed into service at the end of the second quarter of 2018. When delivered, Atlas Air Worldwide will own or operate 12 Boeing 777 freighters.

President and Chief Executive Officer William J. Flynn, Atlas Air Worldwide, said: “These 777 freighters enhance our position in this attractive aircraft type and are consistent with our strategy of growing the operations that we acquired as part of Southern Air.”

The operator is currently involved in discussions about the financing of the two 2012-vintage aircraft. Atlas expects to conclude the financial transaction during the second quarter of 2018.

Atlas Air envisages, that the 777 freighters will have operating and financial impacts. The company anticipates, that its 2018 full-year net income will raise by a mid-twenty-percent level, compared to 2017.

Headquartered in Purchase, New York, Atlas Air operates as cargo airline, passenger charter airline and aircraft lessor. The airline operates a fleet of 30 Boeing 747s, of which the most are freighters. Furthermore, 27 Boeing 767s, including 18 B767-300 and 9 B767-200 belong to Atlas Air´s direct fleet. Atlas Air has leased several freighter aircraft to various customers. In total, the operator owns 96 aircraft.
