Industry Caribbean Airlines orders 12 737 MAX 8 aircraft

Boeing and Caribbean Airlines have announced, that the carrier has decided to renew its fleet with new 737 MAX 8 aircraft.

Caribbean Airlines will buy 12 737 MAX 8 aircraft, that are set to replace the current single-aisle fleet, currently consisting of 12 Boeing 737-800 and five ATR 72 aircraft. Boeing stated, that the aircraft will be delivered to in the coming years.

The Prime Minister of Trinidad and Tobago, the Honorable Keith Rowley, and Caribbean Airlines Chief Executive Officer, Garvin Medera were present during the signing ceremony.

"Boeing has been by our side since Caribbean Airlines was founded twelve years ago using the 737-800. The 737 MAX allows us to continue offering a safe and comfortable experience for our passengers, while significantly improving fuel efficiency and environmental performance," said Medera. "All of these elements position us for long-term success."

Caribbean Airlines will fit a three-class configuration in its 737 MAX 8 aircraft. 160 passengers can be accommodated. All aircraft will have the Boeing Sky Interior installed.

Boeing´s 737 MAX Family features new LEAP-1B engines from CFM International, which are much more efficient than older generations. Compared to the currently 737-800 aircraft, Caribbean expects 16 percent fuel savings.

Caribbean Airlines is the flag carrier of Trinidad and Tobago. The airline is headquartered in Iere House in Piarco and commenced operations in January 2007. Caribbean Airlines currently serves 20 domestic and international destinations.
