The African carrier will add ten additional Bombardier Dash 8 Q400 aircraft to its existing regional fleet of 20 Q400. The order also includes purchase rights for five additional Q400 aircraft. Based on the list price of the Q400 aircraft, the firm order is valued at approximately $332 million.

“The Bombardier turboprops continue to deliver unmatched performance to our operators, and we are proud that the flag carrier of Ethiopia is once again recognizing its tremendous value by increasing its fleet of Q400 aircraft,” said Fred Cromer, President, Bombardier Commercial Aircraft. “The market trend for high-performing and larger turboprops is intensifying, and this fifth reorder is a great example of the Q400 turboprop success story and the value it creates for clients around the world.”

The current Ethiopian Airlines Bombardier Dash 8 Q400 fleet is configured either with 78 seats in a single-class configuration or with 7 seats in business class and 64 seats in economy class. Bombardier offers a new cabin concept, which allows an optional extra-capacity configuration offering up to 90 seats.

Ethiopian Airlines is one of the largest African carriers, serving over 100 international destinations in Africa, Europe, Asia and North and South America. The Bombardier Dash 8 Q400 will be integrated in its African network (more than 58 destinations) and its domestic network (more than 20 destinations). Beside its main hub in Addis Ababa, Ethiopian Airlines operates flights from its secondary hubs in Lome (Togo) and Lilongwe (Malawian).
