A European airline has signed a letter of intent (LOI) to order 31 C-Series aircraft, with options for additional 30 aircraft. The deal will be agreed by the end of this year.

The firm order is valued at approximately $2.4 billion, based on the list price. If all 30 options will be used, the amount would increase to $4.8 billion. Alain Bellemare, President and Chief Executive Officer at Bombardier said: “This significant new order confirms the increasing confidence customers have in the C Series.” The order is a sign, that the C-Series program is still alive. According to Bellemare, the C-Series program will gain momentum shortly. “Looking forward, as Airbus joins the program, and with the C Series continuing to prove itself in service, we expect sales momentum to accelerate quickly.”, Bellemare added.

It is rumoured, that the European customer could be Lufthansa Group. In 2008, the German carrier said it has the intent to buy 60 Bombardier C-Series. If Lufthansa indeed is the customer to buy the aircraft, it is presumed, that the C-Series will replace older Airbus A319. Furthermore, it is expected, that Brussels Airlines may receive some C-Series aircraft for its medium-haul fleet, as the leasing deal with Cityjet over 3 Sukhoi SSJ100 ends in 2 years.

In October Airbus and Bombardier have announced to become partners on the CSeries aircraft programme. Airbus has acquired a 50,01% stake in CSeries Aircraft Limited Partnership (CSALP).

As of September 30, 2017, Bombardier has 360 orders for the C-Series program in total, of which 19 aircraft are already in commercial service.
