Industry Lufthansa Group orders additional 9 Airbus A320

Airbus has announced today, that Lufthansa Group will firm-up an order for nine Airbus A320 family aircraft.

Lufthansa Group will convert a previous option to buy six A320neo aircraft. Furthermore, the Supervisory Board has signed a deal to additionally buy three A320ceo. The deal is valued at US$937,8 million, according to current list prices.

The new order takes the group´s order to a total of 122 Airbus A320neo family aircraft and 273 Airbus A320ceo family aircraft. Of the 122 A320neo aircraft, 77 are A320neos and 45 are A321neos.

“We are delighted to see this additional order from our biggest A320 operator Lufthansa Group”, says Eric Schulz, Airbus Chief Commercial Officer. “Benefitting from the Airbus commonality and the A320 Family’s efficiency and environmental credentials such as reduced noise, lower fuel-burn and emissions, we are pleased the airline has decided to come back for more.”

Lufthansa Group is the world´s biggest Airbus A320 operator with nearly 400 A320 aircraft in service. Mainline carrier Lufthansa was the launch operator of the A320neo, which features modern high-bypass engines. Together with new Sharklets, the innovations deliver at least 15 percent fuel savings at delivery and 20 percent by 2020.

This month, the group announced to buy 16 additional aircraft, including two Boeing 777-300ER for member Swiss, two Boeing 777 Freighter for Lufthansa Cargo and 12 A320 family aircraft (six A320neo and six A320ceo) for Lufthansa. The A320ceos are expected to be delivered this year to offset delays for the A320neo.

Lufthansa Group´s subsidiaries are Swiss International Air Lines, Brussels Airlines, Austrian Airlines and Eurowings. Furthermore, Air Dolomiti, Eurowings Europe, Luftfahrtgesellschaft Walter, Lufthansa Cargo and Lufthansa CityLine belong to the group. Lufthansa holds a 50% stake in AeroLogic and SunExpess. Last year, the group had over 128,000 employees and 550 subsidiaries and equity investments.
