Industry Xiamen Airlines orders Boeing 737 MAX

The China Southern Airlines subsidiary Xiamen Airlines has announced it has signed an acquisition agreement with Boeing for 30 latest generation Boeing 737 aircraft.

According to the published stock market disclosure, Xiamen Airlines plans to acquire 20 Boeing B737 MAX 8 and ten Boeing 737 Max 10.

The Boeing Aircraft will be delivered in stages to Xiamen Airlines during the period commencing from 2019 to 2022. In 2019 Xiamen Airlines will receive the first five Boeing 737- MAX 8. One year later, seven additional MAX 8 will be handed over to the Chinese carrier. Eight Boeing 737 MAX 8 and seven B737 MAX 10 are scheduled for delivery in 2021. The last three B737 MAX 10 are scheduled for delivery in 2022.  

Xiamen Airlines is a subsidiary of China Southern Airlines, which owns 55% of the Xiamen-based carrier. The SkyTeam member operates flights from its three hubs at Xiamen Gaoqi International Airport, Fuzhou Changle International Airport and Hangzhou Xiaoshan Airport. The fleet of Xiamen Airlines consists of 165 Boeing aircraft: ten Boeing 737-700, 139 Boeing 737-800, four older Boeing 757-200, six B787-8 and six B787-9 Dreamliner. The new ordered Boeing 737 aircraft could be used to replace older Boeing 737-800 and Boeing 757. The first MAX 8 was delivered to Malindo Air in May 2017. The larger MAX 10, which should compete with the Airbus A321Neo, is scheduled for a first delivery in the early 2020’s.

A first Memorandum of Understanding for the order of 10 Boeing 737 MAX aircraft for Xiamen Airlines was signed at the Paris Air Show in June 2017.
