Start-Ups Air Frances announces details for Joon Airlines

Air France has launched its new low cost carrier Joon, which aims at attracting younger travelers. The new airline will be based at Paris Charles de Gaulle Airport and start operations in December

First destinations will be Barcelona (51x per week), Berlin-Tegel (37x per week), Lisbon (28x per week) and Porto (3x per week). The carrier will use a fleet of Airbus A320 and A321 aircraft operated by Air France crews.

In summer 2018 the new carrier plans to connect Paris with Fortaleza in Brazil (2x per week) and Mahe on the Seychelles (3x per week). The carrier plans to use Airbus A340-300 aircraft for the long-haul operations. Air France stated, Joon will receive a first Airbus A350 in 2019.

Joon’s target group is the Millennials generation. In its press release Air France describes Joon as a rooftop bar, entertainment channel and personal assistant at the same time. The carrier will offer organic food, in-flight streaming services and partnerships with traveling companies like Airbnb Experiences.

Franck Terner, CEO of Air France declared: “Joon is a new model of airline, between a traditional and low-cost airline, a new travel experience for all customers. Joon is one of our major projects as part of the strategic plan Trust Together and will be one of Air France’s priorities in its offensive to win back market share.” To underline the new concept of Joon, the uniforms will have a sportswear look including white sneakers.
