Start-Ups LEVEL commences Austria flights

A new low-cost carrier from the International Airlines Group (IAG) has commenced operations. LEVEL will base four Airbus A321 at Vienna airport.

The new IAG subsidiary airline will be operated under an Austrian Air Operator´s Certificate (AOC), that the airline has recently received and will fly short-haul routes within Europe.

LEVEL will base four Airbus A321 aircraft in Vienna, which can accommodate 210 passengers in an all-economy configuration. All LEVEL flights will be dispatched at Terminal 1 in Vienna airport.

Willie Walsh, IAG chief executive, stated: “We are launching this new short haul subsidiary to provide Austrian consumers with more flight choices across Europe. These flights will be branded as LEVEL to build upon the huge success of our new long haul low-cost operation.

LEVEL started offering long-haul routes in June 2018 from Barcelona-El Prat. From July 2, 2018, the carrier will expand its operating bases list with Orly airport. LEVEL operates with four Airbus A330-200 aircraft, with three on order.

Overall, the Start-Up carrier will serve 14 European destinations from Vienna, commencing July 17, 2018:

Palma with 7 flights a week

London-Gatwick with 14 flights a week

Barcelona with 7 flights a week

Malaga with 3 flights a week

Venicewith 7 flights a week

Olbiawith 3 flights a week

Ibizawith 3 flights a week

Paris CDGwith 13 flights a week

Milan Malpensawith 13 flights a week

Dubrovnikwith 4 flights a week

Larnacawith 3 flights a week

Alicantewith 2 flights a week

Valenciawith 2 flights a week

Bilbaowith 3 flights a week

Creating a new low-cost carrier and establishing it at Vienna will further encourage the low-cost competition in Vienna. In recent Months, Wizzair opened a new base at Vienna, serving 30 destinations in 22 countries. Moreover, all destinations offered by LEVEL are already being served by other airlines.

In a statement, IAG said that the new engagement will create around 200 new jobs at LEVEL´s Vienna base.

International Airlines Group is an airline holding company, headquartered at London and Madrid. Its subsidiary airlines are LEVEL, Iberia, Aer Lingus, British Airways and Vueling. The group was founded in January 2011 over the course of the Iberia and British Airways merger. Currently, IAG employs over 63,000 employees.
