A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed between Boeing and Porsche. The companies seek to explore the premium urban air mobility market together. Boeing and Porsche have been leading companies in their industries and hope to leverage their unique market strengths to study the future for air mobility.

An international team will be created by the two companies. This team addresses various aspects of urban air mobility, for example the analysis of the market potential for premium vehicles or possible use cases.

"Porsche is looking to enhance its scope as a sports car manufacturer by becoming a leading brand for premium mobility. In the longer term, this could mean moving into the third dimension of travel," says Detlev von Platen, Member of the Executive Board for Sales and Marketing at Porsche AG. "We are combining the strengths of two leading global companies to address a potential key market segment of the future."

Together with Boeing subsidiary Aurora Flight Sciences, the companies are developing a new concept for a fully electric VTOL (vertical take-off and landing) aircraft. Engineers from both companies are set to implement and test a prototype. Porsche subsidiaries Studio F.A. Porsche and Porsche Engineering Services GmbH will be working on the project as well.

"This collaboration builds on our efforts to develop a safe and efficient new mobility ecosystem, and provides an opportunity to investigate the development of a premium urban air mobility vehicle with a leading automotive brand," added Steve Nordlund, Vice President and General Manager of Boeing NeXt, an organization that is laying the foundation for a next-generation mobility ecosystem in which autonomous and piloted vehicles can safely coexist. "Porsche and Boeing together bring precision engineering, style and innovation to accelerate urban air mobility worldwide."

Last year, Porsche released an urban air mobility market forecast, which saw the market picking up speed after 2025. The study also revelated, that new and more efficient solutions are needed to transport people safely in urban areas. This partnership between Porsche and Boeing could be the key to these new innovations.

Porsche is a German automobile manufacturer, which was founded in 1931. Porsche currently employs more than 24,000 people.
